I don't know about you, but for many years of my life, I hated my appearance. I didn't like my height, long limbs, pale pink gums, the freckles in my face, my red hair or even my big breasts. I felt like God had somehow given me the worst features. I even, at one point, despised my light skin and wished I were darker. I truly did not love the skin I was in.
If you've been a part of my teachings for a period of time you know that I suffered from extremely low self-worth, self-esteem, and self-confidence - of which neither helped me in liking or even loving myself at all. As a matter of fact, the lower I was the more I hated my appearance and I'd often wish I could look like other people. But of course, that would never happen and I was "stuck" with what I had.
It wasn't until YAH delivered me out of that low place, that I began to appreciate the uniqueness of my beauty. Not only that, but I realized more than anything that my beauty was not based on my outer appearance, but based on who I am on the inside. And as long as my inside is beautiful, then my outside will always be beautiful as well.
So, with my new found relationship with YAH and the revelation of what beauty really is, I began to love the skin I'm in! It's amazing to me when I look back over my life at the time and energy I wasted putting my own looks down and speaking so negatively through self-hate. I'm so grateful to God for delivering me!
Are you struggling with appreciating your outer beauty? If so, I want to inspire you by giving you a few tips that will help you in loving the skin you're in. Before you read the following tips, I want to encourage you to click here to watch a special video from our recent Make Me Over 21-Day Challenge. I believe this one little 3:32 video will help change your perspective on your beauty. Use that along with these tips:
1. Ask God to build your self-love, esteem and worth. He'll do just that. Honestly, you can't effectively love others or be your best when you don't love God first and then yourself.
2. Appreciate your unique features. Those things you despise or think are awkward are really what makes you uniquely beautiful.
3. Be the healthiest you that you can be. When you're healthy you feel good (period).
4. Accentuate your positive features. Now, this doesn't mean you have to dress provocatively and show your body parts. It simply means play up those great features you have. If you have amazing cheekbones, highlight them with blush and bronzer. You get my point.
5. Be the best person you can be on the inside. Remember, true and lasting beauty radiates from the inside out. So be-YOU-tiful on the inside.
6. Don't accept anyone else's opinion of you if they don't line up with what God says and with what you say or believe about you. People will always have an opinion. Who cares? Stop listening to negative opinions about you from people.
Speaking of people's opinions. Everyone used to tell me that I had a big forehead. I knew I did. They would say things like, "You should always wear a bang" or "You need to keep your forehead covered." But here's the thing, I didn't like wearing bangs. Yet, I would feel bad and wear them anyway. It wasn't until I discovered who Susan L. Taylor was and saw her pics that I became inspired to wear my hair off my face and freely let my big forehead show. Her beauty inspired me, as much as I hope this post inspires you.
