Affirmations are not just words you speak one or twice or on occasions and expect them to come to fruition in your life. They are much more than that. Yes, they are words… very powerful words… but they are also authoritative words that should strike a chord with you and make you feel what you speak so you and the heavens can make it manifest.
“(As it is written, ‘I have made thee a father of many nations,’) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickens the dead, and calls those things which be not as though they were.”
–Romans 4:17, NKJV
For affirmations to work they must take root deep within you. You must feel them on all levels of your life – in your thoughts, your heart and in your feelings. Really you should feel them in your spirit, soul and body as they strongly affect each of these areas of your life and ultimately cause manifestation.
By faith you’re speaking and creating something you want. Faith is perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses. So at the time of affirming a thing, it is not real to you in the natural. You can’t see it, taste it, touch it, hear it, smell it or feel it (in your senses). But once your faith has taken hold of it, it becomes real. Once that happens and you believe it, you will begin to behave it and ultimately manifest it. But you can only build your faith by consistent, strong and intentional repetitive recital of your affirmations.
“By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.”
–Hebrews 11:3, NKJV
You must also use your mind, will and emotions when saying your affirmations. Activate the power of your thought and imagination to put yourself where you want to be. See yourself being it, doing it, having it and living it. Then think about how you will feel once you’re there. You can only have what you see and feel is possible for you.
On a physical level, your body should respond to your affirmations through action. Once you believe it you should behave it. In other words you should begin to act as though your affirmation has already manifested. No, you may not fully see results yet but as you behave it one day you’ll BE it and HAVE it!
If after repeating your affirmation over and over and over again and you don’t feel it on some level, perhaps it’s not meant for you to manifest it in your life right now. So consider altering the affirmation or changing it to a new one altogether. But don't give up too soon! You're recreating new thought patterns and undoing a lifetime of beliefs, so keep at it for a long period of time before you consider altering your affirmation. It takes a mind-shift to change your life.
Tips on creating and manifesting what you want through affirmations:
Let's start off with one affirmation so you can apply what you read in this blog and see how it works. Then after that, you can create more and go from there creating the life you want.
- Write an affirmation that stretches your capacity to believe in one particular area of your life.
- Make sure this affirmation is felt on all levels – spirit, soul and body.
- Be very intentional with the wording of your affirmation. Don’t just affirm you want a better relationship – what do you intend to be, do and have from the relationship? Whatever it is, affirm that.
- Don’t be too wordy. Be precise in what you want to manifest. Use words that mean something to you.
- Write your affirmation down on a piece of paper. I suggest writing it a few times on several Post-It notes so you can not only memorize it but post them all over your home.
- Repeat your affirmations over and over and over again daily – all throughout the day. They key is to say them aloud so you can hear them (Romans 10:17). Not only that, but words are vibrations and speaking them will create positive vibes.
- Spend time using your imagination. Don’t just say your affirmation but imagine the manifestation of them and feel the power of each word!
- Don't stop! Don't give up on your affirmations when you don't see them manifest right away. Keep at it! And you must say them daily! Consistency is key to breakthrough, therefore if you want to create the life you want, you'll need to be consistent in affirming it.
In my home I have an affirmation and inspiration wall filled with affirmations. I also have affirmations posted on my refrigerator and one in my kitchen window. Whenever I wash dishes I repeat that one affirmation over and over again.
Another key to manifesting your affirmations is to make sure they are in alignment with God's plan and purpose for your life. You can find God's plan for your life in His Word (your Bible) and through prayer and relationship with Him. He will never keep you in the dark and will always reveal what He wants for you. You need to seek Him to know His plan.
"'For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,' says the Lord,
'thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.'"
-Jeremiah 29:11, NKJV
