Jesus in the Beginning
In verse one John reminds us of a profound truth… Jesus (the living Word and Son of God) was with God (the Father) in the beginning of time. Genesis 1:1 declares, “In the beginning God…” Take a moment to declare that by saying aloud, “In the beginning God!” Say it a few times and let the words sink in.
John goes on to say in verse three, “All things were made through Him [Jesus], and without Him [Jesus] nothing was made that was made.” Colossians 1:16 tells us, “All things were created through Him and for Him.” All things includes all things, even your very life.
Sadly, many of us whose lives were created through Christ and for Christ exclude Him day in and day out from our daily activities and decisions even to major things like relationships, money, where we should live, where should we work, you name it.
Are you beginning your day with Jesus? Are you beginning your marriage with Jesus? Are you beginning your job hunt with Jesus? Are you beginning your friendships with Jesus? He wants to be a part of every aspect of your life. He wants to be your beginning.
When you invite Jesus into the beginning of your life, you save yourself the effort, time, disappointments, heartache and so much more. Not only that, but He shines His light in dark places and gives you grace, instructions, strategies, witty inventions, creative ideas, and everything you need to be successful. You’re able to avoid the pitfalls of life by putting Jesus in the beginning of your life and everything it encompasses. Because Jesus is the living Word (v. 14), you must give Him the final word in your life.
Here's the thing, God the Father, Jesus the Son and Holy Spirit are one. If you've accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior (Romans 10:9-13), you are one with Him/Them also. So now read John 1:1-2 from this perspective... "In the beginning was Jesus, and Jesus was with _____________ (insert your name), and Jesus was ______________. Jesus was in the beginning with _____________." Will you put Jesus in your beginning?
