A Desperate Kind of Faith
Scripture - Matthew 9:27-31
There are five very powerful words in today's passage we must stop and pay attention to. They are found in verse twenty-seven. The Bible says, "...two blind men followed Him [Jesus]." Did you catch that? The men were blind, yet they followed Jesus anyway.
Stop for a moment and close your eyes. Put yourself in these men's perspective for just a moment and walk from one room in your house to the other with your eyes closed. How did that feel? Now imagine what it must have been like for these two men following Jesus in the streets: reaching their hands out trying to feel their way to Jesus, listening intently to His voice and His footsteps while making their way towards Him, and maybe stumbling and falling along the way. I also imagine people watching them from a distance wrongly judging and calling them crazy men or drunkards. Yet they were so desperate to follow Jesus they took risks.
How desperate are you to follow Jesus? Are you as desperate as these two blind men in that you will follow Him no matter what you see or don't see? No matter if you stumble and fall... no matter if you look ridiculous following Him... no matter what people may think of you? How desperate are you?
Here's the thing... these men blindly followed Jesus because they had faith in Him and His power to heal them. Faith that He held the key for their healing and deliverance. The truth is, faith is blind. It has no eyes. As a matter of fact faith does not appeal to the senses at all.
The Amplified Bible defines faith in Hebrews 11:1 by saying, "...faith is perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses." In other words, faith is believing it's already done even though we can't see it, taste it, touch it, smell it or hear it.
On Day 10 we answered the question, "Where is your faith?" Today we answer the question Jesus asked these two blind men when they finally caught up with Him, "Do you believe that I am able to do this?" You have to desperately believe He's able.
What are you believing God for? Do you have faith to see it come to fruition even if it means you have to blindly follow Him while believing? Even if it means looking ridiculous and being considered crazy? Will you still desperately believe and follow Him? Well just as Jesus told these two men in verse twenty-nine, "According to your faith it will be done to you."
