Step Into Your Greatness & Just Do It
Scripture - John 2:1-12
Today we join Jesus at a wedding reception where they ran out of wine and immediately His mother, Mary, goes to Him for a solution (v. 3). I love how “real” the conversation goes between Mary and Jesus…
Mary: They have no wine.
Jesus: What does that have to do with Me? My time (to do miracles) has not started yet.
And in typical mother fashion, Mary seemingly ignored what He said and instructed the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.”
To me that speaks volumes because it meant she already knew what the world would soon come to know - the power within her Son which was yet to be revealed. She knew what He was capable of doing and she didn’t settle at His statement.
The revelation in that is, you will need people in your life who will see your highest potential and push you into your greatness who won’t take no for an answer and who will not accept any excuses from you. People who won’t let you sit as a spectator (or guest), but demand you to get up and do something.
The second revelation we can glean from today’s passage is the powerful words Mary spoke to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.” Again, she knew what Jesus was capable of doing and the instructions given to the servants were vital for the manifestation of the miracle.
What has God instructed you to do lately? Did you do it or did you ignore it? There are times when you will have to participate in the miracles you seek and “Whatever He says to you, do it.” It’s just that simple.
We often want to see the results without putting in the work to get it. What if the servants had said, “I’m too tired… I don’t feel like it… I’ve been on my feet all day let someone else do it…” If they had gone against Mary’s instructions, the miracle may not have happened and there wouldn’t have been wine, or someone else would have taken part in a miracle they were supposed to be a part of.
And get this! The wine Jesus produced was the best wine (v. 10). Not some cheap, tasteless wine but the best! If you want God’s best in your life then you must do whatever He says to you.

- Do you have people in your life who can/will push you into your greatness? Who are they?
- If you’re not connected to them right now, pray first and then connect. You need them.
- What has God instructed you to do lately?
- What excuses have you come with that prevented you from doing it?
- Repent, ask God to forgive you for making excuses, and begin doing what He told you to do. Remove all excuses. Be fearless, take bold action, and watch God produce a miracle in your life.
