Weathering the Storm with Jesus
Scripture - Matthew 14:22-33
Have you ever been in a storm? Of course you have! Have you ever been at a place in your life where situations seemed to beat up on you, tossing and turning you to the point where you don't know what to do to get out of it?
In today's passage we see Jesus' disciples in yet another storm (See Day 10). Again, the Bible is very specific in saying they were tossed with waves and the wind was contrary (v. 24). In other words they were in the midst of chaos; probably afraid for their lives. After all, this was during the fourth watch which was between 3-6am. No one could see them, and I imagine no was was around to hear them screaming for help.
But verse twenty-five the Bible says Jesus went to them. Yes, in the midst of the storm Jesus went to His disciples to both save them and to be with them as they continued their journey.
Think about something with me... if Jesus had the power to talk on water, surely He had the power to transcend space and time and do directly to their destination bypassing His disciples. Yet, He chose to come to them, rescue them from the storm and be with them in the darkest time.
I don't know about you but I've been through some storms and many dark times in my life. I don't know how I would have made it if Jesus had not come to me during those times to both save me and be with me.
I say this all the time and I really want us to get this on this journey with Jesus, and that is... He cares about everything that concerns us. Our relationships, our finances, marriages, careers, children... if it concerns you, He make it His concern too.
So if you're in the midst of a storm or in a dark time in your life right now, why are you worried? Don't you trust and believe Jesus has come to your rescue and has come to be with you to see you through that tough time?
He said to His disciples, "Be of good cheer, it is I, don't be afraid." How encouraging is that? In other words He said put a smile on your face and be happy, I AM with you, there is nothing to be afraid of. Can you hear Him speaking those words to you today?
I need you to get this ... JESUS IS WITH YOU! Right smack dab in the midst of what you're going through! Will you believe Him? Will you trust and have faith in Him? Will you allow Him to calm the storm? Will you allow Him to rescue you? Will you allow Him to just be with you through it all? Will you stop trying to weather the storm on your own and allow Him to be All Mighty God in your life?
Journal
- Are you currently in a storm or dark place in your life? If so, write about it in your journal. Refer back to Day 10’s journal assignment.
- Underneath, write a prayer inviting Jesus into the boat with you. Allow Him to rescue you and be with you during this time in your life.
- Affirm this: I am of good cheer! Jesus is with me! I am not afraid!
Therefore don’t worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. -Matthew 6:34, HCSB
